We’re back again for more ‘Top Sports Stories Of The Week’, so let’s get under way.

Manchester City v Everton


Manchester United got back to winning ways and won a game of two halves against Sunderland 1-2 in a match where Premier League débutante Januzaj shocked everyone with two well-taken goals. Manchester City picked themselves back up from two poor defeats to win convincingly 3-1 against the only Premier League team unbeaten before Saturday, that being Everton. Fulham manager, Martin Jol, relieved a bit of the pressure on him by winning against strong starters of the season Stoke with a Bent goal late on. West Ham produced the shock result of the weekend by beating Tottenham at White Hart Lane for the first time in 14 years 0-3 after Tottenham’s midweek trip to Russia. Chelsea won 1-3 at Norwich with the home side conceding to late goals unfortunately having put in a great performance against the visitors. Newcastle got a great result a resilient home side Cardiff winning 1-2 with two first-half goals for Loic Remy. Arsenal dropped points for the first time since the first match of the season against another East Midlands (West Brom) club by drawing 1-1 and Jack Wilshere scoring in the 63rd minute to go back on top level on points with Liverpool who won against another poor Crystal Palace side 3-1 by scoring 3 first-half goals from Saurez, Sturridge and Gerrard (having scored for the 15th consecutive league season). Southampton continued their good form by beating Swansea 2-0 with goals from Lallana and Rodriguez.

Sunderland look set to take on Gus Poyet as their new boss after Paulo Di Canio was sacked 5 games into the season. Sunderland are currently bottom of The Premier League.

Joaquim Rodriguez Wins Tour Of Romandie


Joaquim Rodriguez won his second successive Tour of Lombardy to finish of the season well after being beaten by inches in last weekend’s World Championship by Portuguese rider, Rui Costa. Spain rider Valverde came second  17 seconds behind Rodriguez and 6 seconds ahead of Polish rider Majka.

Britain’s Youth Cycling Team risks no longer existing even though they’ve had a decent season. Their sponsorship deal has run out and they need to find one within the next few weeks to be able to continue as a team.




Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel has taken his 8th win of the season in Korea, in a thrilling race that saw the Lotus’ of Kimi Raikkonen and Romain Grosjean finish 2nd and 3rd. Sauber’s Nico Hulkenberg finished an excellent 4th. Notable retirements included the other Red Bull of Mark Webber, both Force Indias and both Toro Rossos.

Dario Franchitti is undergoing surgery after a serious crash at the Grand Prix of Houston. On the last lap of the race the Ganassi driver ploughed into the back of Takuma Sato. The car took to the sky and spiralled across the catch fencing surrounding the street circuit. As well as Dario’s injury several spectators were injured.

Sebastian Loeb has crashed out of his final rally in France. The Frenchman has won a record 9 World Rally Championships in a row (2004-2012) but this year has faced stiff competition from rival and compatriot, Sebastian Ogier. Loeb is leaving the WRC scene for World Touring Cars, but he is sticking with his Citroen team.

Ottawa Stunned by Maples Defeat


Toronto Maple Leafs have had a great start to the season by winning all their games over Montreal Canadiens, Philadelphia Flyers and Ottawa Senators and are now top of the Atlantic Division.

Boston Bruins put on a terrific show with the new rivalry brought back up between them and Detroit Red Wings, Bruins won the match in spectacular style 4-1 and with great goaltending from Tuukka Rask.

Roy found himself in trouble in his first NHL game by getting a $10,000 fine for an outburst against Anaheim Ducks.

Buffalo Sabres started slowly by losing all three first games of the season and only able to have scored two goals in that time.

Pittsburgh have won two and lost none so far this season with upcoming games against Carolina Hurricanes, Florida Panthers and Tampa Bay Lightning were they could potentially get three wins.

St Louis Blues have started well by getting two wins under their belt and scoring 11 goals in the process.

Dallas started well by winning against Washington 2-1 with a goal from rookie Alex Chiasson.
