Porter’s Premier League Predictions – 15th & 16th March 2014

Updated: March 14, 2014

There are some exciting fixtures in store for this weekend’s Premier League action including Stoke vs West Ham, Manchester United vs Liverpool, and Tottenham vs Arsenal. Here are my predictions.

All kick-offs at 3pm GMT unless stated

Hull vs Manchester City (12:45pm) – Nickola Jelavic and Shane Long are expected to be back in action for Hull after they both missed the FA Cup win against Sunderland. Hull however have only won one of their last seven home league games, but Manchester City are undefeated in their last seven away league games. City’s focus is now solely on the Premier League after being knocked out of the FA Cup and the Champions League all in the last week. Sergio Aguero is doubtful for this game, but I think City have enough to collect all three points in this tie.

Prediction – Hull 1-2 Manchester City

Everton vs Cardiff– Cardiff will enter this game with confidence after picking up a 3-1 win against Fulham last weekend. Everton will be hoping Jagielka is fully fit after being knocked out of the FA Cup last weekend by Arsenal. Everton have also only lost once at home in the league this season and I don’t see the second loss coming against Cardiff. Romelu Lukaku will get on the score sheet as well.

Prediction – Everton 3-1 Cardiff

Fulham vs Newcastle United – After the loss to Cardiff last weekend, Fulham currently sit bottom of the Premier League and four points off safety, so they need to start winning and fast. Alan Pardew will start his seven match touchline ban. How much of an effect this will have on the squad is yet to be seen but because of Fulham’s bad form, I think Newcastle will pick up all the points on offer.

Prediction – Fulham 1-2 Newcastle United

Southampton vs Norwich– Southampton have only won one of their last eight home games in the league and will be looking for all three points against relegation battling side Norwich. Their chances of picking up all the points are further boosted by the fact Norwich have only won twice away from this season in the league. Southampton is much stronger all over the field so I expect them to win this weekend with Adam Lallana scoring too.

Prediction – Southampton 3-0 Norwich

Stoke vs West Ham – Two teams battle it out to attempt to break away from the

bottom half of the table pack and secure their Premier League status. West Ham’s four-game winning streak came to an end against Everton last time out, and they will be looking to get back to winning ways. Stoke are without Charlie Adam and James Walters for this fixture. Stoke though are undefeated in 10 of their last 11 home games in the league so I see a draw on the cards for this one.

Prediction – Stoke 1-1 West Ham

Sunderland vs Crystal Palace – Sunderland need to get back on track after back-to-back cup defeats, to ensure they don’t go into a downward spiral that could lead to relegation. Crystal Palace is still without top goal scorer Marouane Chamakh and will be looking at Glenn Murray to provide the goals. Due to both sides recent form in the league, most people would think this game has a draw written all over it. I think Gus Poyet will find a way to rally up his players this weekend in front of the home crowd and earn all the points.

Prediction – Sunderland 2-0 Crystal Palace

Swansea vs West Brom – Both sides will be looking for a result in order to consolidate their place in the Premier League. Swansea will be without Chico this weekend after he was suspended for being sent off against Crystal Palace. West Brom is yet to win under Pepe Mel and they have also failed to win their last ten away games in the league. With no real goal scorer available in the West Brom squad this weekend, Swansea should collect all three points. Wilfred Bony should bag a goal as well.

Prediction – Swansea 2-0 West Brom

Aston Villa vs Chelsea (5:30pm) – There has been 30 goals between these two sides in their last six meetings, so expect the goals to be flying in this Saturday evening. Chelsea has only conceded four goals in their last 13 league games. Aston Villa will hope to change all that after putting four past Norwich in their last league fixture. Chelsea’s defence should be able to hold out Villa’s star man, Christian Benteke, and take all three points away from Villa Park.

Prediction – Aston Villa 0-3 Chelsea

Manchester United vs Liverpool (1:30pm) – Liverpool have been superb in attack this season, with Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez scoring 42 goals between them. Manchester United hasn’t had the best of seasons and need to turn things around quickly in order to qualify for European football next season. United have won each of their last six matches at Old Trafford against Liverpool but they haven’t come across a Liverpool attack like this for a long time. Out of the current top six teams in the league, Liverpool have only managed to beat Tottenham away from home, losing to Arsenal, Man City and Chelsea. I see this game being the catalyst to United turning their season around with Juan Mata scoring.

Prediction – Manchester United 2-1 Liverpool

Tottenham vs Arsenal (4pm) – Things just seem to be getting from bad to worse for Tim Sherwood and Tottenham. Recent losses to Chelsea and Benfica don’t put Tottenham in good form entering this game. Kim Källström is expected to make his first appearance for Arsenal, but Nicklas Bendtner is not expected to play after recent news appearances and Aaron Ramsey’s return is to be delayed as well. Despite both teams being injury stricken, Arsenal seems to be the stronger side, and I expect them to win.

Prediction – Tottenham 1-2 Arsenal

Hull 1-2 Manchester City
Everton 3-1 Cardiff
Fulham 1-2 Newcastle
Southampton 3-0 Norwich
Stoke 1-1 West Ham
Sunderland 2-0 Crystal Palace
Swansea 2-0 West Brom
Aston Villa 0-3 Chelsea

Manchester United 2-1 Liverpool
Tottenham 1-2 Arsenal
