Jamie’s Premier League Predictions – Week 3

Updated: August 31, 2013

Conor Porter is taking a break from his predictions this week as Jamie takes over to have a go at this weekend’s Premier League predictions.

Chelsea and Aston Villa are not in action this weekend due to the fact that Chelsea played in Prague on Friday night against Bayern Munich in the UEFA Super Cup but lost to the Germans on penalties and will be facing a sad flight home.

Sunday is the best day out of the weekend as we see one of the biggest rivalries in English football take place at Anfield between Liverpool and Premier League champions Manchester United. And we also have the London derby between Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur with Spurs spending big in this summer’s transfer window and Arsene Wenger having trouble to sign any player for the Gunners with just days remaining until the window closes.

Saturday’s matches – 31st August

Manchester City v Hull City
Kick-off – 12:45 (UK time)

Jamie’s prediction – 3 – 0

“Manchester City had a horrific time in Cardiff last Sunday especially the defence against Frazier Campbell who just couldn’t stop scoring headers past Joe Hart. Eden Dzeko scored for the blues yet again in that match and he doesn’t seem to always start well when he was playing under Roberto Mancini the Bosnian would be seen as a super sub. I think Manchester City should start with Dzeko in Saturday’s match, he could get them a couple of goals. City will want to win by a few goals just to forget their dark day in Cardiff. I just don’t see Hull City scoring at the Etihad I’m afraid it should be a piece of cake for the team in blue.”

Cardiff City v Everton
Kick-off – 15:00 (UK time)

Jamie’s prediction – 1 – 1

“Cardiff will certainly have gain a lot of confidence after their historic win over Manchester City and are playing at their home ground for the second time in a row this weekend. Everton would most likely be happy with a point away but have drawn all their matches so far in the Premier League and if a win is possible then Roberto Martinez will go for it. It’s not been easy for Martinez in the transfer market with the likes of Leighton Baines and Maroune Fellaini being linked to Manchester United joining their old boss, two important to the club. I think a draw will suit this match.”

Newcastle v Fulham
Kick-off – 15:00 (UK time)

Jamie’s prediction – 0 – 1

“I see Newcastle being one of the contenders that will struggle to stay up this season even though it is early days, but they are carrying on their form from last season which is not good. Fulham’s squad on paper looks impressive with the likes of Darren Bent, Dimitar Berbatov and Adel Taarabt. A lot of decent forwards in their line-up. I can just see Fulham snatching a late win on Saturday.”

Norwich City v Southampton
Kick-off – 15:00 (UK time)

Jamie’s prediction – 0 – 0

“Both evenly good sides in the league I can just see the match being a tight one so I’m going for a goalless draw hopefully I will be wrong and we will see some goals scored.”

West Ham United v Stoke City
Kick-off – 15:00 (UK time)

Jamie’s prediction – 2 – 0

“This match could one of the ones to watch this weekend as these two sides have had some tight matches over the last few seasons. West Ham had a good start to the Premier League season with a comfortable home win over Cardiff and I see West Ham to have the same result this

Saturday in their second home match. You never know with Stoke they like to pull up a few surprises especially in their mid-week match against Walsall in the League Cup with Kenwyne Jones scoring a hat-trick as the striker hasn’t had an easy time at Stoke.”

Crystal Palace v Sunderland
Kick-off – 17:30 (UK time)

Jamie’s prediction – 1 – 0

“The last home match Palace had was against Tottenham they were very unlucky not to get a point out of it but no thanks to Soldado’s penalty they lost on their return to the Premier League. Sunderland are unpredictable at the moment they like to win out of the blue I can never be sure if they are going to win or not. Both sides haven’t won yet so the two are going to be hungry for maximum points on Saturday.”

Sunday’s matches – 1st September

Liverpool v Manchester United
Kick-off – 13:30 (UK time)

Jamie’s prediciton – 1 – 2

“What a match this could be at Anfield. One of the biggest rivalries in England and perhaps the world of football. Last season’s

match at Anfield was was entertaining from start to finish with the red devils coming back from 1-0 to win the match 2-1 thanks to Robin Van Persie’s penalty. With the threats of Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez against United and the threats of Van Persie and Wayne Rooney against Liverpool this could go either way. David Moyes has never been able to win a match at Anfield while manager as Everton so he will want to finally break that long wait with a side that are capable of upsetting the home fans.”

West Bromich Albion v Swansea City
Kick-off – 13:30 (UK time)

Jamie’s prediciton – 2 – 2

“Nothing between these two sides so that is the main reason why I am going for a draw. Swansea players might be a little tired from their

Europa League qualifying match last Thursday which may give the home side the advantage but I reckon we will see a few goals and a neck and neck match.”

Arsenal v Tottenham Hotspur
Kick-off – 16:00 (UK time)

Jamie’s prediction – 2 – 1

“This is by far the most interesting match of the weekend. Tottenham have been on a spending signing big stars European stars like Soldado and recently signing Christian Eriksen while Arsenal have been making bids for Luis Suarez and Yohan Cabaye in which they have failed to bring anyone in. But in the last week or two Arsenal have been very impressive with a big win over Fenerbahce in their Champions League qualifying and winning at Craven Cottage last Saturday has shown to a lot of people that they may not need to make any signings when their side are performing pretty well. Tottenham have made a good start to the season with their new recruitments making good first impressions especially Soldado. It’s going to be very interesting with Arsenal coming out on top.”
