WPL: Friday night previews

Updated: January 7, 2016

Two matches take place in the Welsh Premier League on Friday night with Aberystwyth Town, Port Talbot Town, Bangor City and Newtown AFC in action.

Aberystwyth Town v Port Talbot Town

Kick-off: 19:30

Venue: Park Avenue

It’s a must win for both sides as Aberystwyth Town are one win away from being placed into the top six of the Welsh Premier League table, while Port Talbot Town desperately need maximum points to create a five-point gap from the relegation zone.

Both clubs have shown difficult form going into this match with the Seasiders coming runner-up in their last two home matches at Park Avenue and Port Talbot only picking up three points from six previous matches.

Bangor City v Newtown AFC

Kick-off: 19:45

Venue: Nantporth

Both teams started off 2016 without a bang after defeats on New Year’s Day.

Bangor City were thrashed 0-3 at home to newly promoted MBi Llandudno in a televised match on S4C. All three goals were scored in the opening 45 minutes to give them a slim chance of finishing in the top six.

The Citizens, however, have confirmed the signing of forward Steve Lewis this week and could be expected to make his debut against Newtown AFC.

The Robins got a taste of champions football from The New Saints last week losing 4-1 at Park Hall after a 2-2 draw with the league leaders on Boxing Day.
