Gap Connah’s Quay have announced the signing of Nathan Woolfe from Stockport County.

Woolfe is the Welsh Premier League club’s first signing of the January transfer window as the club looks to strengthen their frontline.

The 27-year-old ends a one and a half year spell at Stockport County making 20 appearances but failed to score any goals for the National League North team.

The Nomads are currently just inside the top six of the Welsh Premier League table as they fight for a place in the UEFA Europa League qualifying stages.

Connah’s Quay is the third highest goal scoring team midway into the 2015/16 season with 35 goals, The New Saints and MBI Llandudno have more, but more could be added with the arrival of Woolfe.

A little more about him

Joining a Welsh club is not a first for Woolfe, as the striker had a loan spell at Wrexham AFC in 2008 making nine appearances and scoring just the one goal on his debut.

That was after a youth career at Manchester City and Bolton Wanderers where he experienced European football with the Wanderers at the Estadio Jose Alvalade against Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon.

After saying goodbye to Bolton in the summer of 2009, Woolfe earned a playing contract with Spanish club Jerez Industrial CF for two years providing a couple of goals in 10 matches.

Another achievement was added to his CV when helping non-league club Northwich Victoria reach the quarter-finals of the FA Trophy along with finishing runners-up in the league.

Away from the football, Woolfe has a half brother who is a member of the European Parliament named Steven Woolfe.

Possible debut

The North Welsh club’s next match is at home to Welsh Premier League champions The New Saints on January 16.

A much needed strong performance against an undefeated side so far in the campaign may need the support of Woolfe to bring home the goals.
