Tour De France 2013 Stage 17 Embrun To Chorges Individual Time Trial Review

Chris Froome reassured his Tour De France victory by proving superiority over all the other riders by winning the second individual time trial. His victory didn’t seem all that easy when he was trailing by 20 seconds to Contador at the second check-point but opting to change his bike for a bike more suited to time trials helped him beat second place Contador by 9 seconds.

Westra set a real target to beat when all of the time trial experts didn’t do so well being on a road bike. Westra beat everyone in his way on every check-point then came in at 54 minutes 2 seconds. Westra’s first rival of the race was Spaniard Izaguirre who beat Westra’s overall time by four seconds.

The next to reach first place was Van Garderen when he beat everyone’s times on each check-point and finished 34 seconds ahead of Izaguirre, which lightened up what seems to be a very disappointing Tour for Van Garderen and BMC. Luckily for Van Garderen the rain started falling just as soon as he finished while in first place and having the advantage of not riding in the rain.

Peraud unfortunately crashed in the warm-up then crashed 2 kilometres from the end, which consequently ended his Tour with a fractured collar bone.

Contador started of very well and looked to be a big challenge for Froome, he led everyone at every stage by the time he finished.

Froome set off and trailed behind Contador on the first and check-point, trailing by 20 seconds after the second check-point, mainly because he changed his bike so it’d be more suitable for a time trial and recuperated that time and even got 9 seconds ahead of Contador to gain a few seconds over his main rival.
