A week into the new year already after celebrations all over the world it’s time to get back to business as sport never sleeps. Here’s a look back at the last 7 days of big sport headlines.

The FA Cup

Manchester United suffered another blow at Old Trafford with another defeat losing to Swansea City 1-2 after a late winner was headed into the back of the net from Wilfried Bony.

Wins from Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Everton secure their places into the fourth round with Manchester City hosting a home replay match with Blackburn Rovers after a 1-1 draw at Ewood Park.

 

Eusebio

Portuguese footballing legend Eusebio has passed away at the age of 71.

Eusebio’s cause of death was due to heart failure as the former Benfica forward died in his own home on Sunday the 5th of January.

Tributes have been made all over the world from famous footballers, family, friends and legends of the sport. Eusebio’s coffin was seen publicly around the Benfica ground for the fans to say a final farewell.

The Ashes

England have suffered a second whitewash defeat to Australia in 7 years as the Aussies win their first Ashes since 2007.

Australia won the fifth and final test by 281 runs after Alistair Cook‘s side could only score 166 runs in 32 overs.

After the disappointing tour for the English cricketers, there has now been finger pointing at who’s to blame for the horrific defeat.

England coach Andy Flower has said to the media that he will not resign from his job with Cook wanting to stick to the captain role.

The team have 5 months to repair their problems before their next test in the summer season.

 

Michael Schumacher

Seven-time Formula 1 world champion, Michael Schumacher is in a stable but critical condition after a skiing accident on Sunday the 29th of December.

Last Friday was the German’s 45th birthday as fans across the world paid tribute to the motorsport legend by sending their birthday wishes to the Schumacher family while Michael was still in a coma.
