Seb’s Premier League And FA Cup Predictions

With just 5 games to go for most teams, there is a lot at stake for many clubs whether it’s to take potentially the final leap ahead in the title race, try to stay safe or just try and get something from a disappointing season.

Saturday

FA Cup :

Wigan Vs Arsenal

Wigan are back to Wembley after having won the FA Cup and also being relegated but the current holders go into this game as very favourable underdogs, they beat Manchester City in the last round at The Ethihad which has given them a huge amount of momentum and belief that they can win the FA Cup again. Arsenal are currently crumbling at a worrying pace. They’ve lost their big “must win” games this season and are now looking like missing out on fourth so if they could at least end their 8 year run without a trophy then it’ll please Arsenal fans just a little bit. Arsenal will be missing key players like Gibbs, Rosicky and Oxlade Chamberlain, Wigan are in fine form at the moment and will probably be able to exploit Arsenal. I think Wigan will beat Arsenal and go to the final in a very tight match.

Wigan 2-1 Arsenal

Premier League :

Fulham Vs Norwich

Without doubt the biggest match this saturday, Fulham have to win to at least go 2 points behind Norwich in what looks like Norwich’s only winnable game until the end of the season. There’s no denying that Fulham are a completely changed team under Felix Magath, since his arrival Fulham have played well in almost all of their matches and have been unlucky not get more points but no this weekend Fulham can really prove why they should be ahead of Norwich with their away record being terrible and a new unproven manager in the hotseat. I think Fulham will win this match with ease.

Fulham 3-0 Norwich

Sunderland Vs Everton

A must win game for Sunderland and without key player Steven Fletcher, their hopes are nearly diminished. Although Sunderland produced a shock result by beating Everton at Goodison Park and ending their unbeaten year at Goodison, Sunderland don’t look as confident at the moment and honestly look a bit unfit after their match with Tottenham. Gus Poyet has already basically declared defeat to their survival chances. There’s a lot riding on the match for Everton as well, with them possibly finishing the weekend in fourth. I think Everton’s current momentum will help them win and practically seal Sunderland’s fate.

Sunderland 0-2 Everton

West Brom Vs Tottenham

West Brom look unlikely to be overtaken by Norwich or Fulham now to fall into that apparent last relegation place. Tottenham don’t have a lot to play for either having fallen a bit too far behind to finish fourth. Both new managers have so far disappointed  since their arrivals, Sherwood has been heavily critised in many senses for how naive he seems to be and his inexperience and Mele’s been critised for his inability to speak English which many believe is a key factor to their bad run of form since he became boss. Tottenham should be favourites and I don’t think West Brom can get anything from this game.

West Brom 1-3 Tottenham

Southampton Vs Cardiff

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer stated that Cardiff would need a miracle to stay up, basically telling Cardiff fans to be pesimistic about their survival chances, which is understandable, they are without doubt in trouble creeping up behind Fulham for most amount of goals conceded this season and with Southampton it’s not going to be easy to keep them out. Although Southampton are looking at finishing comfortably in mid-table, they will no longer have Jay Rodriguez for the rest of the season (for 6 months to be precise), which could actually be a good thing meaning that he most probably won’t be snatched up by a bigger club in the summer. The Saints still have Lallana and Lambert to rely on getting goals but it just won’t be the same without Rodriguez who is so dynamic and can find many different ways of getting past defenders. I think Cardiff are going to be relegated and lose this match against Southampton.

Southampton 3-0 Cardiff

Stoke Vs Newcastle

Newcastle have been on a poor run of form since Alan Pardew’s ban and really need to pick themselves up if they want to end the season well. Stoke on the other hand are going strong having practically secured Premier League football next season. If this match is as excting as their match early in the season then we can expect a great match, two red cards when Stoke were 0-1 up then Newcastle winning 5-1. Still without Remy and Cisse really struggling to score, Newcastle are simply unable to score and with Steven Ireland returning for Stoke, they will have the creativity necessary to open up Newcastle. I think Stoke will win this match.

Stoke 1-0 Newcastle

Crystal Palace Vs Aston Villa

Aston Villa have been very unpredictable this season having basically relied on wins against top teams to keep them up but as Palace look like staying up this is almost a mid-table encounter. Paul Lambert’s team seem to struggle away from home and without Benteke, the pressure is on Agbonlahor and Weimann who haven’t been prolific in front of goal this season. A win for Palace will put them ahead of Villa, who are on the same amount of points, and Pulis would be able to sit back prepare for next season and say “job well done”. I think this will end in a draw and don’t consider any of these two teams to go down.

Crystal Palace 0-0 Aston Villa

Sunday

FA Cup :

Hull Vs Sheffield United

Whoever wins this match will probably be considered as the “underdog” in the final but both teams have done well to deserve their place. This is really something to please the United fans during a poor season in league football. Untied have already knocked out Aston Villa and Fulham so there’s no reason why they couldn’t do the same to Hull. Hull are up for this simply because they don’t need to worry too much about relegation, their biggest problem is the absence of Jelavic and Long, both being cup tied. I think this could be a very tight match with Sheffield not giving in easily. I predict that Hull will win but with not a lot of goals in the match.

Hull 1-0 Sheffield United

Premier League :

Liverpool Vs Manchester City

This is the big match of the weekend, a match that could help decide who will compete against Chelsea for the title. The two teams in the Premier League who score for fun and the return of Aguero should make the game even more exciting. Sturridge could be key and prove a point to his former team. Toure will also return for City which will be a massive boost but if they are to get something from the game their midfield will have to be very disciplined which they haven’t had to be this season but against Liverpool they will need to stay aware. I wouldn’t be surprised if this game had 8 or more goals in it. I think Liverpool will get the important win.

Liverpool 3-2 Manchester City

Swansea Vs Chelsea

Swansea are a team who aren’t theoretically out of danger just yet and getting a win against Chelsea won’t be easy. Chelsea haven’t exactly found it easy on the road recently but will need to pick up their form if they want to consider themselves favourites to win the title. Having qualified for the semi-finals of the Champions League, their league form could dip. Swansea have had their ups and downs with Gary Monk as manager, they may not win against Chelsea but they can certainly get the amount of points necessary to stay up from now until the end of the season.
