A Champions League quarter final that lived up to all expectations, from Messi being reasonably quiet to Beckham playing 70 minutes and of course a goal and assist by Ibrahimovic.

A perfect performances defensively by PSG wasn’t good enough to keep a clean sheet but a positive performances offensively got a lucky goal given even though Ibrahimovic was offside and a last minute deflectrion let Matuidi score a very important goal that keeps PSG’s dreams of qulifying not far from impossible.

PSG attacked positively but only had two decent chances in the first half, from Lavezzi one on one against Valdes and a free kick from Ibrahimovic which Valdes was able to reach, while Tiago Silva was without the best player on the pitch, helping out to avenge former club AC Milan, the other ex-Milan player Ibrahimovic had a disapointing performances, not giving the ball when he should have and holding up the ball when he should or just simply having a lot of bad first touches, but he did score a crucial goal for PSG (which was offside) and an assist in the last minute heading the ball down to

Matuidi to score.

Messi’s night was not a great one, not influencing anything in the game with Tiago Silva dealing with him perfectly until the 39th minute when Dani Alves found Messi with an outstanding pass with the outside of his foot and Messi found a couple of yards of space to score with a half volley, but minutes later when trying his luck outside the box he pulled a hamstring which could consequently rule him out of the second leg, but most certainly put him out of the second half.

The second half started with Fabregas replacing Messi making Fabregas a “False No 9” which left PSG’s defense a little more relaxed because that played well with their zonal marking, but PSG’s midfield was over-run with four midfielders against Beckham and Matuidi, Barcelona lacked a finishing touch without Messi with Sanchez and Villa unable to bring what Messi brings. Beckham and Pastore both seemed like they were hiding away throughout the whole match, were both replaced by Verratti and Gameiro which let Verratti spread the ball across the field and pass the ball forward and Gamneiro to run after it. On the flanks Lucas was struggling Alba with pace and skills, along with the help of Lavezzi. Barcelona’s second goal came from a penalty scored by Xavi from a foul by Sirigu which made the tie seem over until Matuidi’s last minute goal.
