Port Talbot Town

Port Talbot itself maybe be making the papers this week regarding the future of the steel industry, but Port Talbot Town have shown their mettle this season by reaching the semi-final of the Welsh Cup.

In truth, it’s been a somewhat disappointing campaign for the Steelmen, as they find themselves the wrong side of the league split. As is often the case though, a poor showing in the league is balanced out by a good showing in the cup and should they beat Airbus UK it will only be the second time in their history that they have made it to the final.

In the 2010 final against Bangor, Port Talbot went 2-0 down only to claw their way back 2-2. An extra-time winner by Dave Morley of Bangor denied Port Talbot the chance to lift the prestigious cup.

Despite their low league position, Port Talbot have been on a decent run of form of late, unbeaten in their last 5 games, having won 3. It should be noted as well, last time these two teams met in the league, it ended as a 2-2 draw.

Airbus UK Broughton

For the second year on the bounce, Airbus UK Broughton have reached the semi-final of the Welsh Cup. The Wingmakers seem to do reasonably well in this competition on paper, having reached at least the quarter-final every year since 2012, but somehow a place in the final itself has always eluded them. It should be noted that for the last two years Airbus UK have been beaten by the eventual winners, so it could be argued that they have been unlucky with the draw in the past.

They’ll be looking to put things right though with a win over league strugglers Port Talbot. It has to be said that Airbus UK are not exactly having the greatest of seasons themselves though. Whilst they are the right side of the league split, they are only 6th in the league and in fact only have 3 more points than Port Talbot. Coupled with the fact that they are currently struggling for form as well, with 4 losses in 5 games, it is a real possibility that they could be denied yet another place in the final.

Harry’s Prediction

This is a hard one to call in all honesty. Neither team is in particularly great form at the moment, but Port Talbot is playing slightly better. Having said that, Airbus UK are further up the table and have a better squad than Port Talbot.

As said earlier, the last time these two teams met in the league it ended 2 a piece and I can see that happening again. I think if it does end a draw, Airbus UK will prevail on penalties.
