Updated: August 15, 2014

The Premier League season is back which means ‘Porter’s Predictions’ is back too! With some exciting new players and managers joining the Premier League, this season should be bigger and better than ever! Here are my predictions for this weekend.

All kick-offs at 3pm GMT unless stated.

Saturday

Manchester United vs Swansea (12:45pm) – Louis Van Gaal will start off his reign as Manchester United boss with a bang as he picks up all three points in this game. New club captain Wayne Rooney to bag himself a goal.

Prediction – Manchester United 3-0 Swansea

Leicester City vs Everton – Unfortunately, Leicester first game back in the top flight will not start off well as Everton’s Romelu Lukaku will dictate the game. It will be a close game but Everton should win.

Prediction – Leicester City 1-2 Everton

QPR vs Hull – QPR return to the top flight at the first time of asking and have boosted their back line to avoid relegation back to the Championship. This will be another close affair with QPR grabbing a late winner.

Prediction – QPR 2-1 Hull

Stoke vs Aston Villa – Both sides have brought in good editions to their sides but the absence of Christian Benteke means Villa will lack quality in the final third.  Stoke’s excellent home record will play a role in this game too and will see them pick up all three points.

Prediction – Stoke 2-0 Aston Villa

West Brom vs Sunderland – I don’t know why but I just can’t see West Brom winning this game. Their midfield and strike force isn’t as good as Sunderland’s and I think that is what makes me think they don’t have a chance in this game.

Prediction – West Brom 0-2 Sunderland

West Ham vs Tottenham – Both sides have strengthened over the summer but West Ham being without striker Andy Carroll I think sees Tottenham picking up all the points in this fixture. Christian Erikson will score a goal.

Prediction – West Ham 1-3 Tottenham

Arsenal vs Crystal Palace (5:45pm) – This season is going to be tough for Crystal Palace without Tony Pulis as their manager. I don’t see any other outcome for this fixture other than an Arsenal win with new signing Alexis Sanchez being in the spotlight.

Prediction – Arsenal 4-0 Crystal Palace

Sunday

Liverpool vs Southampton (1:30pm) – Southampton fans will see a few familiar faces when they travel to Anfield, as Rickie Lambert and Dejan Lovren are set to make their Liverpool debuts. Liverpool will have enough quality in their squad to pick up the win despite selling Luis Suarez to Barcelona over the summer.

Prediction – Liverpool 3-0 Southampton

Newcastle vs Manchester City (4pm) – Manchester City will start off their title defence with a trip to Newcastle. Newcastle has bolstered their squad over the transfer window but if Man City plays at full strength, it should be a comfortable win for them.

Prediction – Newcastle 1-4 Manchester City

Monday

Burnley vs Chelsea (8pm) – Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa will get Chelsea off to a great start against Burnley. I think trips to Burnley will be tough for a lot of sides this season thanks to their striking partnership of Sam Vokes and Danny Ings, but the quality of Chelsea’s squad should mean they pick up and easy win.

Prediction – Burnley 1-4 Chelsea
