Porter’s Champions League Predictions – 11th & 12th March 2014

The second legs of the round of 16 games are on the horizon and with most games still tight, we are bounding for some exciting football. Here are my predictions for this week’s Champions League action.

Tuesday

Atletico Madrid vs AC Milan (1-0 on agg) – Atletico have a 1-0 advantage going to this leg thanks to a late goal by Diego Costa when the sides met at the San Siro. The fact that Atletico have only lost once at home all season in all competitions means I can only see this tie going one way. Atletico will go through to the next round.

Prediction – Atletico Madrid 2-0 AC Milan (3-0 on agg)

Bayern Munich vs Arsenal (2-0 on agg) – Bayern Munich have a 2-0 lead coming this tie. Toni Kroos and Thomas Muller got on the score sheet at the Emirates to help the current holders take an advantage. With Bayern Munich having an immaculate home record and the injury troubles and suspensions Arsenal are currently dealing with, the only outcome I see is a Bayern Munich win.

Prediction – Bayern Munich 3-1 Arsenal (5-1 on agg)

Wednesday

PSG vs Bayern Leverkusen (4-0 on agg) – Progress into the next stage of the competition for Bayern Leverkusen, in my opinion, is out of reach before this game even begins due to PSG’s goal advantage. PSG will likely use

this tie as a showing ground to the rest of the teams in the competition, to show they mean business. Bayern Leverkusen simply does not have the squad quality to compete against PSG.

Prediction – PSG 3-0 Bayern Leverkusen (7-0 on agg)

Barcelona vs Manchester City (2-0 on agg) – Both sides have had hiccups recently with both of them losing at the weekend against opponents they should be defeating with ease. Nevertheless, the likelihood of Barcelona crashing out of the Champions League at home is unimaginable unless you’re a Manchester City fan. Despite their loss at the weekend, I think Barcelona will advance to the next stage of the competition.

Prediction – Barcelona 2-1 Manchester City (4-1 on agg)
