Wales failed to impress the home crowd without a win at Cardiff City Stadium as the Dragons played their last fixture at home before they compete at Euro 2016 in France.

A late penalty from Wales’ Simon Church denied the visitors from picking up a win after Craig Cathcart gave Northern Ireland the lead on the hour mark.

Wales

Wayne Hennessey (GK) – 6/10

Comment: The Crystal Palace goalkeeper only played the first 45 minutes but will be happy to pick-up a clean sheet, technically, before being substituted for Daniel Ward.

Chris Gunter – 5/10

Comment: The heart at right back for Wales had a few attempts with the pace against Northern Ireland’s left back but didn’t produce a fine delivery.

Adam Matthews – 5/10

David Vaughan – 6/10

Comment: The former Premier League player looked to be playing in a defensive midfielder role. Vaughan stuck with his back bone to deny the opponents chances of breaking through on the attack.

James Chester – 7/10

Comment: Chester and his centre back team mate Ashley Williams played a big part in defence making important clearances and out strengthening their opponents.

Ashley Williams (C) – 8/10

Comment: Man of the match performance from the Swansea City defender. The skipper only made a couple of errors but filled up his role and showed the consistency with country as well as his club in South Wales.

George Williams – 5/10

David Cotterill – 6/10

Comment: Played the whole 90 minutes. Cotterill had a really good chance to put Wales ahead in the first half but his free kick was saved by Michael McGovern.

Sam Vokes – 5/10

Comment: The striker in-form for Championship club Burnley may not have scored on the night but he seemed to impress his boss Coleman from what was said in the post-match press conference.

Tom Lawrence – 4/10

Joe Ledley – 5/10

Northern Ireland

Michael McGovern (GK) – 6/10

Comment: The goal stopper made a big save in the first half to deny Wales’ Cotterill to open the scoring from a free-kick.

Conor McLaughlin – 5/10

Gareth McAuley – 6/10

Comment: The defender was impressive on the night but sadly resulted in giving away a penalty with moments to spare.

Jonny Evans – 6/10

Comment: The West Bromwich Albion defender made life difficult for the attackers of Wales on the night.

Steven Davis (C) – 5/10

Kyle Lafferty – 6/10

Comment: The Northern Ireland striker rattled the bird cage a couple of times by breaking through the Wales defence but had no real threat at goal.

Stuart Dallas – 4/10

Oliver Norwood – 7/10

Comment: Norwood produced some dangerous deliveries from set pieces and started one of the corners that saw Cathcart open the scoring.

Patrick McNair – 6/10

Comment: The youngster’s main role was in midfield but contributed behind when Wales were on the attack.

Craig Cathcart – 5/10

Comment: Scored to put Northern Ireland in the lead and didn’t he strike it well.

Conor Washington – 5/10

Comment: Receiving his first international call-up for Wales and Slovenia and didn’t make much of an impact with plenty of experience to pick up.
