“I had no doubt in my mind that Lewis could take another pole position, the Mercedes is clearly the outright fastest car. The biggest surprise for me personally was the success of the supposed back marker teams. van der Garde, Chilton and Bianchi all profited from the changing conditions to claim the last few spots in Q2. May not look like a great result on the face of it but if they keep their cool, and have a fair amount of luck, one of them could be on their way the the team’s first points in F1.

I have to say the biggest disappointment for me is the 2 Toro Rossos not even making it out of Q1. In a time where they really need to show their talent to Christian Horner, neither Vergne or Ricciardo can afford to put in poor results like this. In their defence the mad weather caught them out and if you look at the stats that’s true. van der Garde took a risk going out on slicks at the end of the session and they didn’t, and look where Giedo finished, 3rd place. Yet there they are in 18th and 19th.

Ferrari is another surprise for me. Massa did a similar thing to Di Resta but a lap later. In theory he should be at least 1 or 2 places higher than he is. And Fernando just drew the short straw I feel. Someone had be be the slowest of the guys that went out first and unfortunately this time, it was him. But in my mind both Fernando and Kimi are just beginning to throw the championship away.”

“Mercedes have once again proved to everyone that they have a car capable of achieving pole positions in nearly every race this season. As of Hamilton’s pole in Spa that is the team’s 9th pole in 10 Grand Prixs which is a fantastic statistic.

But I don’t think Hamilton will be the man that will bring home Mercedes’ 4th Grand Prix victory of the season this weekend. A lot of people have been saying that Hamilton is probably the only driver capable of spoiling Vettel and Red Bull’s party. I don’t fully agree because people seem to be forgetting that Kimi Raikkonen is currently

driving for Lotus.

The reason why I think Hamilton will not be victorious on Sunday, is the fact that the car still has problems with it’s race pace and if it weren’t for the problems they have suffered from the first half of the season the team would most likely have one of their drivers leading the championship. I just see Vettel winning the race on Sunday which shall increase his gap from Raikkonen in the championship.”

The Belgian Grand Prix kicks-off at 13:00 (UK time) or 14:00 (local time) on Sunday 25th August.
