The second day of action at the first official MotoGP test session of 2014 took place at Sepang in Malaysia on Wednesday.
All teams and riders barring Iodaracing are present, with Suzuki also on track as it continues development work ahead of its 2015 return.
Marc Márquez stayed fastest as MotoGP testing continued at the Sepang International Circuit on Wednesday.
With conditions just as good as they were Tuesday, it was Dani Pedrosa who led the way for much of the first half of the day. The World Champion then smashed through the two-minute barrier shortly before his lunch break, after which there were substantially less changes in lap times. It remains to be seen as to whether Marquez can better Casey Stoner’s 2012 pre-season time of 1’59.607, also registered on a Repsol Honda motorcycle. The reigning World Champion clocked a best lap time of 1:59.926 to improve upon his opening day benchmark by just over three tenths of a second and end the session as the only man to dip under the 2m00s barrier.
Márquez’s Repsol Honda team-mate, Dani Pedrosa, finished four tenths adrift in second position, with satellite runner Stefan Bradl (LCR) and seven-time title winner Valentino Rossi (Yamaha) third and fourth respectively.
Aleix Espargaró again impressed on his Forward Racing team’s Yamaha Open class bike, edging out factory rider Jorge Lorenzo for fifth.Jorge Lorenzo; the former double title winner was attempting to improve handling issues, encountered on Day 1 as a result of setup changes made in a bid to improve fuel consumption, as for 2014 the Factory Option bikes are limited by a further litre of fuel to just 20 across a race distance. Bradley Smith, Andrea Iannone, Álvaro Bautista and Pol Espargaró completed the top ten.
The works Ducatis had another quiet day in Malaysia, with Andrea Dovizoso and Cal Crutchlow 11th and 12th.
