With two flights remaining Warne continued to be in the lead, but Mossey Joe had significantly reduced the margin between first and second (about 4 lengths), with Tartan Snow now in third place. With a gruelling two furlongs home straight to negotiate, Warne had to continuously alter his run to dodge loose horses. In second place Mossey Joe’s every stride reduced in length and Tartan Snow took advantage. Warne stormed past the post as 7-2 2f winner, a clear 13 lengths ahead of 25-1 Tartan Snow. Four and a half lengths behind Mossey Joe 11-8f was a thankful third, and Earth Dream followed eight lengths behind to take fourth place at 33-1. Having won the race last year as a thirteen year old, could this be a good omen for Tidal Bay?
